New Berlin Elementary Parent Letter

September 28, 2011

Dear Parents and Guardians:
I would like to introduce myself as your child’s first grade teacher for the 2011-2012 school year.  I received my Bachelors of Science in Elementary Education from the University of Central Florida and I am ESOL certified.  Currently I attend the University of North Florida studying Educational Anthropology as a post-baccalaureate.  This will be my fourth year teaching and first year on the faculty of New Berlin Elementary.
Our journey will begin with your child’s education. We will be studying reading, spelling, writing, math, and science, along with our resources of physical education, music, art, and technology. As many of you know, first grade is a challenging year for children, so I encourage you to continue to be a positive role model in their education. Ask them questions about school and offer your help to ensure their growth. Please also reference the weekly newsletter sent home for up coming units, projects, or assignments that may require your guidance. I am planning many exciting hands-on projects to get your child motivated and excited about learning and those will be previewed in the Friday newsletter.
The focus for your child this year will be individual growth. The way we will monitor this growth will be through a variety of assessments and hands-on center learning. The assessments will acknowledge the diversity of learning styles in each child and allow them to flourish in their individual strengths. The learning centers will offer differentiation and independent or group activities that reinforce lessons being taught to the whole group. I set high expectations for my students that are achieved through a variety of learning techniques and assessments. I am confident that each child will rise above and beyond these expectations this year. I hope you join me in promoting these high expectations at home as well.
I look forward to the many adventures in learning that I will share with your child. I also look forward to meeting you all at one of New Berlin Elementary School’s family nights or sooner. Please contact me at school if you have any other questions or if problems arise. I am happy to communicate with you on any matter. The best way to contact me at this time is via email, jenningsL2@duvalschools.org. You may also dial the school’s number, 904-714-4601 and asked to be put through to my voice mail extension 1260. I am looking forward to an all star school year with your child.

Sincerely,

Ms. Lauren Jennings
